Lemon Cayenne Detox Water

Like all of the mothers of naturopathic medical students, my mother is reading the book The Supercharged Hormone Diet by Dr. Natasha Turner, N.D.  I had the chance to flip through it and discovered a recipe for this easy “detox water” that Dr. Turner recommends to accompany the diet.

Now addicted to the fresh and spicy flavour, I thought that I would include this recipe for an awesome, cheap supplement to any weight loss or detox program: Lemon Cayenne Water.

This drink contains only 4 ingredients and is simple to make.  Prepare it in the morning and take it with you to school or work to sip throughout the day.

You need:

– water bottle

– 1 fresh squeezed lemon

– 1 piece of fresh sliced ginger

– 1 pinch of cayenne pepper

– 1 litre of water

Add ingredients together in water bottle and sip throughout the day.  After getting used to the spicy kick of this drink, you will experience the warming and detoxifying benefits of the cayenne pepper, ginger and lemon.  Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, which inhibits hunger and fat storage.  Lemon aids in liver detox and alkalizes the body.  Ginger decreases nausea and inflammation and helps warm the body.

I find it hard to drink enough water in the winter time, so this warming drink is a fresh and invigorating way to up your daily water intake and aid your body’s metabolic processes.  Hydrating, stimulating and flavourful, this drink might just give you the afternoon jolt you need, sans sugar and caffeine!
